b'The relatively low-rise residential buildings are starkly contrasted by two imposing pieces of infrastructure: the Robert F Kennedy and Hell Gate bridges, which both span from Queens to Wards and RandallsIslands across the East River and beyond. Constructed in close proximity to one another but built in very different styles, these bridges tower over Astoria Park like bookends for the green space and outdoor public pool in-between.Astoria has a handful of buildings deemed architec-turally significant enough to be listed on the National Historic Register. They include Bohemian Hall, the Astoria Center of Israel, Paramount Studios Complex, Sohmer and Company Piano Factory, SteinwayMansion, and Trinity Lutheran Church. Although not listed, the Steinway & Sons Factory is also a pop-ular visitor attraction and is expected to reopen for tours in 2022.Amongst all this history, theres new architecture, too. A small handful of industrial complexes are being replaced with developments by award-winning firms, providing brand-new housing aimed at younger people allured by Astorias charm and culture. They add to the continually evolving urban melange that covers this corner of Queens.Architecture 18'
